Mellanox ConnectX adapters are the reference NIC for RDMA workloads: RoCE v2 lets a server move data to another server's memory without involving the CPU, which is what makes 100GbE and 200GbE usable for AI training, NVMe-oF storage and distributed databases. The part number encodes generation, speed and protocol — MCX5 is ConnectX-5, MCX6 is ConnectX-6, and the suffix after the dash sets port count and interface.
