A datacenter leaf or spine switch is a fixed-form-factor Ethernet switch built for east-west traffic between servers: 100GbE ports on QSFP28, cut-through forwarding, and RoCE v2 support so RDMA traffic keeps priority under load. The NVIDIA Mellanox Spectrum family covers 32 to 64 ports in 1U and 2U, which is why it appears in AI training clusters, HPC fabrics and NVMe-oF storage networks.
